Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, ladies and ladyboys – it’s that time again. Time for the ever-popular, most awesome Snatch Game episode for RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 5. Squee!
Let’s recap the highlights – season 4 gave us Sharon Needles as Michelle Visage and Chad Michaels as Cher. Season 3 gave us Raja as Tyra Banks and Stacey Lane Matthews as Mo’Nique’s character from the movie Precious. Pandora Boxx went classic as Carol Channing, and Tatianna was called ‘eerily accurate’ in her portrayal of Britney Spears in Season 2. And season 1 was just sad in comparison because there was no Snatch Game that year. Oh well, greatness isn’t born. It must evolve.
We start off with the usual ‘oh, my goodness, TWO queens got eliminated’ beginning banter. While this has been a good pattern this season it’s getting a little repetitive. Can someone shake this opening up? Anyone?

This week’s mini challenge is ‘who wore it best?’ Three queens get the same blanket with sleeves (trademark). Each one has to style it in their own way & then Us Weekly dictates ‘who wore it best?’ Each queen wins an Us Weekly swag bag. That’s industry-speak for a bag of crap that the editors got for free & no one in the office wants so it gets pawned off on unsuspecting drag queens.
So then the queens start getting ready for Snatch Game. Detox is doing Ke$ ha because apparently they’ve worked together a bunch of times. Alyssa Edwards is doing Katy Perry. Ivy Winters is going with Marilyn Monroe. Alaska will be attempting Lady Bunny, which is putting instant pressure on her. Janet Jackson will be embodied by Coco Montrese since she does Janet 6 nights a week in Las Vegas. Jinkx Monsoon is doing Little Edie. Apparently some drag queens don’t know who Little Edie is. These are drag queens that should hand in their gay card. Immediately. Know your history, kids! Even if you only know Grey Gardens from the HBO version starring Drew Barrymore and Jessica Lange. Guess it’s time to do some educating:
And then we find that Lineysha Sparkx is going to do Michelle Obama because she can look like her. Michelle Obama. Ok. Ru’s not sure how Lineysha will make the First Lady funny. Neither is Lineysha. It’ll be interesting to see if she speaks at all during the game. We learn that this year’s judges are Julie Brown and Downtown Julie Brown.
We finally get to the game introductions and learn that Jade Jolie is Taylor Swift. Apparently that was too boring to mention earlier. Lineysha decides to go with Celia Cruz, not that that helped her be funny. Roxxy Andrews does Tamar Braxton and she’s funny even though I only vaguely know who that is. Ivy Winters is floundering as Marilyn Monroe – when Ru asks her about politics, she just goes blank. Jinkx’s Little Edie runs with it & talks about the family & what a scandal that was. Oh my.
This year’s winner for most inappropriate performance goes to Detox’s Ke$ ha for peeing on stage in front of Tamar Braxton. That’s not the same as having a bad performance – Alyssa, Ivy and especially Lineysha were not good. Jinkx mentions that if you auditioned for Drag Race without having an idea of who you would be for Snatch Game, that’s just dumb. Alyssa doesn’t think drag queens need to be comedians. Ok, Alyssa, but you’re on RuPaul’s Drag Race where you KNOW this challenge will be coming up. Work it out girl. Jinkx is feeling outcast again because she’s got to explain her style of drag again.
On the mainstage the queens have to embody the deadliest snatch – fishy glamour. Ivy goes literal in a fish dress. Alaska brings a stuffed fish out with her outfit. Catch of the day is snapper. Alyssa Edwards, Coco Montrese and Jade Jolie are safe. Alyssa only because she had immunity, so she’s got to tweet an apology to Katy Perry.
Detox gets read for her jellyfish inspired dress. Alaska gets good feedback on her Lady Bunny. Ivy gets read for her Marilyn Monroe. Lineysha gets read for her Celia Cruz. Michelle Visage isn’t impressed with Jinkx’s glamour look, but she got mad props for her Little Edie. Julie Brown calls her the Meryl Streep of Drag Race.

Let’s get to it. Roxxy Andrews is safe. Jinkx Monsoon is the winner. Alaska is safe. Lineysha is up for elimination, as is Detox. Ivy Winters is safe. Tonight’s lip synch is to Take Me Home by Cher. Come on Ru. It’s a Cher song, but it starts out so slow. The energy is much higher with these two – Detox in her wiggly mouth and lack of underwear win the day. Even with the double-elimination last week, Lineysha is sent to sashay away.
