Full spoilers for the episode follow.
Da Vinci’s Demons has really hit its stride. After the exciting reveal of Dracula as an antagonist last week, this week we have da Vinci breaking into the Vatican in search of a second key which will open the way to the Vault of Heaven and the Book of Leaves. Does all of that sound awesome? Well it is! On top of that, Giuliano Medici’s search for the spy has an unexpected twist.
Through the first five episodes there was a sense that the series was going to take a slow but steady approach to the mythology that was being presented. Well, there is plenty of mystery left, but, there has been quite a bit of effort put into expanding the universe that THIS da Vinci exists in. I emphasis THIS because it’s been clearly leaning towards more fantasy for a while now and anyone still hung up on historical comparisons should keep those thoughts in check. This da Vinci exists in a world with Dracula, who still shares some resemblance with the historical Vlad the Impaler, is fantastical and frightening. And now this da Vinci exists in a world in which the Vatican Secret Archives hold the impossible. From an armor melting Spear of Destiny to a torn page from the Book of Leaves showing incredible hand waving properties – brought to you by the all new Kinect.
