The Queen Has Spoken: Interview with Pretty Wicked Moms Emily Dees Boulden

Interview with Lifetime’s Pretty Wicked Moms Emily Dees Boulden

Lifetime’s latest “Mom” series offers a bit more humor than the traditional drama associated with a reality series fueled by a group of beautiful, semi-rich and supercompetitive women. The star of Lifetime’s new Pretty Wicked Moms (premiering Tuesday, June 4 at 10pm ET) is the self-described “queen bee” Emily Dees Boulden, a sexy, savvy businesswoman who is owner of Atlanta’s high-end boutique Swank. Emily is mother

to Am ie, wife to the ever-patient Pete and BFF to Nicole N. (the doggy mom), who is also a featured cast member on the series. Between launching her own clothing line, running her boutique and raising a 2-year-old, Emily took a timeout to opine on where she stood on a few topics.

On being a “wicked mom”…

Well obviously it’s a double entendre. A wicked mom to me is what I think of myself. I’m a badass mom who is successful, who can multitask, who can juggle family, work and friends — and all of life’s curveballs — while standing tall and in 5-inch heels. I don’t think of it as evil at all.

On keeping up with the competition …

I just want the best of the best for Am ie. Maybe all the other moms try and compete with me, but I don’t compete with other moms. I’ve never been a follower. I’ve always been a leader and that’s just who I am. I just try and be the best mom I can be.

On friendship and if it’s easy being her friend …

I would say yes. Of course I think it is. But in reality probably not. Girls are hard. There are a lot of jealous girls and if you’re not comfortable with who you are, it would probably be hard to be friends with me. I’m not a jealous person and that’s probably why Nicole and I are best friends, because she’s not either.

On forced friendships (like Miranda) …

Our husbands are childhood best friends — I mean it goes back to kindergarten. That’s part of every woman out there — there’s always a forced friendship. We try to make it work. I say what I think. I’m not a fake person. I’m really a genuinely nice person. If you’re beautiful, I’ll say you’re beautiful. I don’t think she’ll be surprised by anything I say. I feel like I’ll probably be more surprised by the things she says. I don’t know. She knows how I feel about her. I told her before.

On the type of mom she really is …

I don’t hover over [Am ie] and try to control everything. I let her figure things out herself and it will make her a better person because that’s the way I was. At the end of the show, the proof is always in the pudding. Everyone can judge but when you look at the children and who is a better parent, the proof is always in the pudding.
