Game of Thrones Mailbag #3 Free on klikvideo.com

Don’t get all bent out of shape in a Meereenese Knot, it’s time for another Game of Thrones Mailbag!

Game of Thrones Mailbag #2

With a big episode coming our way this Sunday, “The Rains of Castamere,” we wanted to help clarify a few things that y’all might be scratching your heads over. Yesterday, we lit the biggest fire the North has ever seen and asked for you guys who haven’t read the George R. R. Martin Game of Thrones books to submit any questions you had about the HBO series. The idea here is that, with all the new faces and places being introduced each season, we don’t want anyone to get left behind.

‘Ugly Americans’ Cancelled by Comedy Central Free on klikvideo.com

Comedy Central has canceled the animated series Ugly Americans. News of the shows demised was posted by the series producers on Facebook. “As you might have gathered by now, Comedy Central did not renew us for a 3rd season. The reason this notice is coming so late is that, in spite of lukewarm ratings, the network did everything in their power to keep the show alive by trying to find outside financing. We came very close but unfortunately some legal technicalities kept any deals from going through.”

‘Ugly Americans’ comes from creator Devin Clark, who also directs the sitcom alongside Aaron .

The show, which debuted in March of 2010, follows social worker Mark Lily (voiced by Matt Oberg) who lives in an alternate reality version of New York City that consists of a population full of monsters and more. Daniel Powell (Inside Amy Schumer) serves as the show’s executive producer.

The cast includes Kurt Met ger who voices the role of Randall Skeffington, Mark’s roommate. Natasha Leggero play Callie Maggotbone, Mark’s girlfriend, alongside voice actor Randy Pearlstein as Leonard Powers, Michael -Leon Wooley as Twayne Boneraper, and Larry Murphy in the role of Francis Grimes. ‘Ugly Americans’ comes to a close after a two season, 31-episode run on Comedy Central.

Women of ABC’s “Mistresses” aren’t just another group of “Housewives” Free on klikvideo.com

Women of ABC’s “Mistresses” aren’t just another group of “Housewives”

By Jacqueline Cutler

When a show revolves around four women’s lives and loves, as does Mistresses, comparisons to Sex and the City and Desperate Housewives are inevitable.

But don’t look for a Carrie or a Lynette. Rather, the prime-time drama features two very different sisters, Savi (Alyssa Milano, Charmed) and Josslyn (newcomer Jes Macallan), and pals Karen (Yunjin Kim, Lost) and April (Rochelle Aytes, Madea’s Family Reunion).

At least in the first couple of episodes, no one is a mistress in an ongoing relationship.

Savi is an ambitious lawyer, married to a rather brittle chef, Harry, whose life is suddenly chaos. When Savi has what could be a one-night stand with colleague Dominic (Jason George, Grey’s Anatomy) it leaves her shaken.

“She is a good person that made a bad decision,” Milano says. “She is very strong and independent and successful and very almost Type A personality, where she seemingly has everything together. Because of this bad moment, where she makes this bad decision, she has never experienced such chaos in her life.”

Horrified by her infidelity, Savi shares it with her friends.

“The fun thing about Mistresses is it focuses on everyday people who make extreme choices,” George says. “They are there to support each other. Dominic is basically her work husband. He’s applying for the full-time position.”

Though Savi’s guilt-ridden, that’s a foreign emotion to her sister, Joss, the quartet’s wild one, who is determined to have few regrets, certainly none from abstaining.

The only mom among them is April, who is also a recent widow. April thinks her husband’s ghost is trying to contact her.

And the most complicated relationship so far, trumping a workplace romance, kinky casual sex and messages from beyond, is Karen’s. A successful psychiatrist, Karen breaks a cardinal rule by having an affair with a patient.

The patient was dying, and if Karen were not sufficiently plagued by crossing that barrier, it becomes far more complicated when the late patient’s son falls for her and starts stalking her.

Sound like a guilty pleasure yet?

“Something is wrong and juicy about her character as the series goes on,” Kim says. “Morally, is this right or wrong? But it is a question of the heart. What is a marriage? What is infidelity, and what is love?”

“Our focal point is the friendship of the four women, and we come together to hash it out and give advice,” Kim says. “I am always surrounded by ama ing women. To do a show I relate to and care about is a blessing.”

Mistresses airs Mondays on ABC at 10pm ET/PT beginning June 3.

Doctor Who Season 7 Report Card: Grade A Free on klikvideo.com

Trying to grade as season that spanned nine months – with two distinctive 13-episode arcs featuring completely different characters – turned out to be a little bit easier than I thought.

Still, Doctor Who Season 7 maintained the brilliance of previous seasons and set us up for the 50th Anniversary Episode coming in November, which is like a little candy nugget we wouldn’t get otherwise. How lucky are we!

The loss of Amy and Rory and their exquisitely memorable exit after already, unknowingly, having met The Doctor’s next companion paved the way for a rather seamless transition despite the character turnover involved in such a move. There were so many Best Episodes in Season 7 that there was no other grade it could receive other than an A…

Goodbye, Ponds

Best Character: Duh. Matt Smith as The Doctor. As it happened, we actually had than one Doctor to choose from given the lead up to the anniversary and the late scene of the finale. Matt Smith, however, has so many different facets to his portrayal of The Doctor, and this season examined some of the deep dark recesses of The Doctor’s mind (in “A Town Called Mercy“) to the absolute giddy possibilities of being in love (“The Bells of St. John“). He can pull them all off rather flawlessly, making him my top choice for The Doctor even if I were given any choice on a silver platter.

Best Episode: “Asylum of the Daleks.” Everything just worked in the season premiere. The Daleks were back, Amy and Rory were shockingly in the middle of a divorce, The Doctor met Clara, who was actually a DALEK, and the Daleks chanted what got the Doctor his name after their inability to remember who he was “Doctor Who? Doctor Who?” The ultra modern take on the classic Doctor Who bad guys as Amy revealed why she was divorcing Rory while being turned into a Dalek herself helped make season opener that broke the doors wide open for anything to happen.

Most Shocking Development: The way Amy and Rory left the show broke my heart. It was a beautiful ending to their story in the middle of a very frightening hour, and it couldn’t have happened any other way. Rory was going to die by those damned stone angels in “The Angels Take Manhattan” no matter what scenario they tried, so Amy made the decision to die with him, stay in 1938, start their lives over and publish a book letting her future family and friends know that their lives were happy and fulfilling. Tears!

Worst Episode: “Nightmare in Silver.” Penned by Neil Gaiman, the expectations were so high there was no place to go but down. Add in Clara’s ridiculously bratty wards and a comical appearance by the Cybermen instead of even a moderate scare and it was nothing short of a disaster. May the force be with Mr. Gaiman should he write another.

Most Interesting Created History: The Impossible Girl. Ever since The Doctor met Clara Oswald he was intrigued and called her The Impossible Girl. We guessed at who she might be and the theories were reincarnated love interests to a physical embodiment of the TARDIS itself. In reality, the created a spot for Clara that tossed her right into the history of The Doctor since his beginning. She has always been with him, but notoriously unseen, protecting and guiding him, sacrificing herself over and over again to ensure his safety. Whether The Doctor was surmising that when he called her The Impossible Girl we don’t yet know, but I liked how it played into the historical aspect of the show and was explained by The Eleventh Doctor seeing her when others just couldn’t or chose not to. Well done created history!

Best Quotes: Because there were some fantastic ones along the way, a handful deserve highlights here. Play guess the episode. Make a game of it!

Rory: Did you just have that on you?
Brian: Of course. What sort of a man doesn’t have a trowel? Put it on your Christmas list.
Rory: Dad, I’m 31 years old. I don’t have a Christmas list anymore.
Doctor Who: I do!! | permalink

The Doctor: Today I honor the victim’s first. His, the Masters, the Daleks, all the people who died because of MY mercy. | permalink

Amy: Time can be rewritten.
The Doctor: Not once we’ve read it. Once we know it’s coming, it’s written in stone. | permalink

Strax: Madame Vastra wondered if you needed any grenades.
The Doctor: Grenades?
Strax: She might have said help. | permalink

The Doctor: Human souls. Trapped like flies in the World Wide Web. Stuck forever. Crying out for help.
Clara: Isn’t that basically Twitter? | permalink

Clara: Then what are we? What can we possibly be?
The Doctor: You are the only mystery worth solving. | permalink

Hopes for the Future: I can’t even give hopes for Season 8 here, because we have that pesky 50th Anniversary special with the Tenth Doctor and Rose supposedly guesting, as well as the Christmas episode. So much can happen in those two, especially given the incredible reveal of David Hurt as THE DOCTOR at the end of the other best episode of the season, which was also The Biggest Bait n Switch, “The Name of the Doctor.” We learned his greatest secret, which we assumed was his name, but it was actually his burial place. Tsk tsk tsk. We should know better than to fall for that stuff by now!

Which is why my hope for the winter episodes and Doctor Who Season 8 are to continue on this incredibly hot streak of writing and storytelling. I’ll leave the imagination and creativity up to Steven Moffat and team. Now it’s your turn. Grade the season and share your reasoning and favorite and least favorite moments in the comments!

Also, in the interest of full disclosure, I should mention that, aside from the premiere episode, I’m writing all of these episode reviews after I’ve seen the entire new season.

Full spoilers for the episode follow.

“A New Start” feels like an appropriate name for an episode that seemed to give Arrested Development the kick in the bunghole butt it needed to really come to life.

Rookie Blue Review: A Little Bit of Hope Free on klikvideo.com

Homecoming“ was all about having hope. Hope that things could change. Hope that the future would be brighter than today.

If you’re a Sam and Andy shipper, you were given hope.

Bank Robbery

But our favorite couple certainly wasn’t the only story. Noelle was back! She looked great and Ollie ended up taking her to a double homicide…that ended up being a proposal from Frank.

It was funny, romantic, and just a tad evil. Just perfect for Frank and Noelle as was evident in this Rookie Blue quote

Frank: You are the most ama ing person I’ve ever met. My best friend in the world and if I’m lucky you’ll also agree to be my wife.
Noelle: I’m going to kill you. | permalink

I couldn’t believe Frank was doing this in front of everyone but after a moment it made sense.  These people were their family because that’s what 15 Division is to Frank and Noelle. Frank wanted their family there for this happy occasion. Hopefully there will be many more to come.

Chris had a month to go before he headed off for Timmons. At first I thought he was simply making this move because he thought he should “do the right thing” and make a go of it with Denise for the sake of his son. The problem with that is that Christian will know if his Dad is miserable.
Then he shared with Dov his thoughts on living in the big city…

Chris: I’ve been around long enough to know that they’re all bad days, at least for somebody. | permalink

If he truly feels that his son would be safer growing up in Timmons, then I could understand making that move. Although he couldn’t seem to put down the picture of that house.  My guess is that Chris will leave but that doesn’t mean he won’t be back.

Dov finally broke his vow of celibacy…with a badge bunny in a bar restroom.  Not exactly true love and I’m hopeful that Chloe doesn’t stick around.

However Dov definitely deserved the celebration bathroom sex. He and Chris kicked some serious butt in that take down.

Nick and Gail were all contradictions once again. Gail still couldn’t quite figure out if she wanted to hit him or kiss him. I couldn’t blame her for holding on to some of that anger. Six months was a long time to get stood up.

When he told Gail the decision to take the long term undercover assignment wasn’t about them, I couldn’t help but think that that’s the problem right there. Gail was so secondary that she never even played into his decision.

Then after listening to the woman in the hospital he did a complete turn around and asked Gail to move in with him.  I loved that Gail immediately kissed him…and that she said no. I think these two need a little more time to work things out before they take that step.

Traci’s was that saddest story of the night. As she told Chris, working late every night was easier than heading home, alone.  Throwing herself into her work appears to be the best way for Traci to deal with the loss of Jerry right now. I hope she finds some happiness before the end of this season.

My only complaints for the episode had to do with Andy’s police work. Why would she run into the bank alone when Shaw was just inside the store? If she’d only poked her head in for a moment he would have followed her into that scene.

I figured the entire case probably circled back around to Darren’s wife, only my first thought was that she was having an affair. That her loser ex wanted to kill her new husband was a twist I didn’t see coming.

One of my favorite scenes was Traci and Andy running into Cru in the park.  Andy was begging Traci to giver her a reason to hate Sam’s new significant other. (I, of course, need no reason as her being with Sam is more than enough.)

I couldn’t have loved Ollie Shaw more than I did in this episode. He’s such a Sam and Andy shipper. If anyone can help bring our dynamic duo back together it’s Shaw.

I almost cheered when Sam and Andy had an actual conversation about their breakup in his truck.

Andy: Sam, you broke my heart.
Sam: Well, you got me back. | permalink

Where does that leave them?  I wish I knew but it certainly felt more hopeful than where we were left last week.

And in the ever wise words of Oliver Shaw…

Shaw: Look, you’re Andy McNally. You don’t give up. | permalink

If that didn’t give McSwarek shippers hope, I don’t know what will.

Mariah Carey Exits ‘American Idol’ Free on klikvideo.com

Mariah Carey won’t be sitting at the judges’ table next season on American Idol.

Her publicists confirmed the news of the singer’s exit via Twitter today in a tweet that read “W/ global success of “#Beautiful” (#1 in 30+ countries so far) @MariahCarey confirms world tour & says goodbye 2 Idol.” Carey retweeted the message shortly after it was posted. This was Carey’s first (and now only) season as an Idol judge.

As previously reported, long-time Idol judge Randy Jackson has decided to depart the series after 12 seasons. It is unclear whether or not third Idol judge Keith Urban will return for season three. “I’m pretty much in the same boat as everybody else here with the rumors that have been floating around,” Urban recently told the Associated Press. “I don’t know anything more about what’s happening next season.”

Although several names have been rumored, there is no news yet on who will be filling the empty judges’ seats next season. Who do you think should take Carey’s place?

New Animal Planet fishing competition series seeks the “Top Hooker” Free on klikvideo.com

New Animal Planet fishing competition series seeks the “Top Hooker”

Before you get too shocked by the title of Animal Planet’s new series Top Hooker (or by the title of its first episode, which is called “The Oldest Profession”) — no, it’s not what you might be thinking. It’s actually a fishing show that marks the network’s return to the competition reality show genre, and pits the world’s top anglers against one another in a series of out-of-the-box fishing challenges for a chance to win $ 30,000 and a 2014 Chevy Silverado.

The diverse group of 10 opponents — from a harpoon-wielding Southern belle to a South African bodybuilder — take to America’s coastlines, lakes and waterways to engage in rather unorthodox challenges such as ip-line fishing, literally walking on water while reeling in catches and capturing fish using only their mouths.

In the premiere episode of Top Hooker, debuting June 2 at 10pm ET/PT, host Reno Collier welcomes the group of 10 to the competition. Right off the bat, the anglers literally must put their fish where their mouths are. The task is to jump into a tank of goldfish and move as many of them as possible into buckets within five minutesŠ using only their mouths. The angler to Œbucket the most fish is named team captain and gets to select teams for the next challenge, “Eagle Eye,” where the anglers must dive for fish like birds of prey. One by one, they¹re harnessed to a ip line and swoop into California¹s Corona Lake from up above and must net as many fish as possible toward the team total. The people on the team with the lowest total go into the elimination challenge, where they are sent out on a man-made floating bridge designed to make them wobble their ways to a catch. In the end, someone must be thrown back home, and every one else is left to fish on for a chance to be Top Hooker.

Top Hooker airs Sundays at 10pm ET/PT on Animal Planet beginning June 2.

American Baking Competition: Will You Go Back for a Second Helping? Free on klikvideo.com

CBS premiered The American Baking Competition last night, and I’m going to try really hard to not go the easy route and describe the latest entry into the reality-competition genre as half-baked. Oh, wait, I kind of just did. (I guess that’s just the way the cookie crumbles.) (Okay, really, I’ll stop now.)

The show is built around the premise of gathering 10 great amateur bakers and tasking them with tackling three recipes per week: A “signature” dish they make at home for friends and family; a “technical” bake in which they receive ingredients and vague instructions — then have to rely on their own baking know-how; and a “showstopper” — where presentation sits in the throne alongside flavor.

The problem with the premiere episode, though, boiled down to simple math: 10 contestants x 3 recpies each divided by a 60-minute episode = not really enough time to focus on getting to know the players, getting a real insight into their baking philosophies, or even getting an “OMG that’s making me hungry” look into their various pies and tartlets.

Worse still, this week’s outcome was as predictable as the use of butter in a pie crust: I mean, no way were judges Paul Hollywood (that name!) and Marcela Valladolid going to send home firefighter Jeremy, a guy who makes his grandma’s sweet potato pie for his fellow bravest. Not when they could send home Carlo, the guy whose entire backstory could be boiled down in four words: “Italian dude from Connecticut.” Okay, maybe five more: “Dreams of pastry-shop ownership.” Not exactly a vivid portrait of the confectioner as a young man.

Nevertheless, the American Baking Competition premiere had a few sweet treats in store:

* Southern firecracker Francine, who made an unbelievably beautiful peanut-butter, chocolate and bacon pie that alternately terrified then delighted Mr. Hollywood. (Girlfriend’s chocolate-cherry tartlets looked like they came from a high-end restaurant as well.)

* Brian, a self-described “Male Martha [Stewart]” with a deep love of housework and a possibly scary competitive streak. (When the judges dissed his tartlet shells as tooth-shatteringly crisp, he instinctively snarled, ”They don’t know what a pastry is!”

* The comic sadness of Carlo’s pastry-crust birds and the way he misguidedly compared them to the Sistine Chapel.

Anyhow, it’ll be interesting to see if American Baking Competition finds an audience — and whether future installments might take a few tips from various Food Network competition shows and put a little more emphasis on the actual dishes. After all, if dessert truly is the best course, then shouldn’t this show put more cakes, cookies and pies on viewers’ plates?

What did you think of American Baking Competition? Did you want more emphasis on the actual food? Did any contestants emerge as your favorites? Could you see Carlo’s exit from a mile away? And will you go back for a second helping? Grade the premiere episode in our poll below, then sound off in the comments!

To celebrate Superman’s 75th year, a new character logo – which can be viewed below – was launched today, while plans for an animated short have also been announced.

Jeff Foxworthy eats well as host of CBS’ “The American Baking Competition” Free on klikvideo.com

Jeff Foxworthy eats well as host of CBS’ “The American Baking Competition”

By Jay Bobbin

He doesn’t cook, but Jeff Foxworthy thinks that’s what makes him an ideal host for The American Baking Competition.

CBS’ version of a popular British show premieres May 29, pitting food-making amateurs against one another in a contest featuring chefs Paul Hollywood (also of the U.K. version) and Marcela Valladolid as judges. Comedian and author Foxworthy’s role on the show may be the perfect one, though: He doesn’t have to form an opinion on any of the contenders, and he gets to sample all their food.

“I’m gonna be wearing maternity clothes after I finish this,” the amiable Foxworthy says with a knowing chuckle. “Let’s put it this way: When I do chin-ups now, I have options. You’re in this room where people are making their favorite home recipes, and I’m walking around with the judges and tasting everybody’s pies. And you’re gonna pay me for that? Yeah, this is a good gig.”

Foxworthy was offered it late in the program’s planning, and he recogni es his game-show-hosting track record — first on Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?, then on GSN’s continuing The American Bible Challenge — served as his “audition,” his only need being to see an episode of the original, The Great British Bake Off, before making his decision.

“My wife and I sat there and watched it together, and she said, ‘I would watch this every week.’ And I said, ‘OK. I want to do this.’ One week later, I was on the set.

“I know nothing about baking,” Foxworthy notes, “but on our show, you get firemen and teachers and lawyers … people from every walk of life. They just do this for fun, and all of a sudden, they’re in a room together with someone saying, ‘Make s’mores from scratch.’ I want to know their stories.”

The American Baking Competition airs Wednesdays at 8pm ET/PT on CBS beginning May 29.

Psych Season Finale Review: The Unit Free on klikvideo.com

Let there be”No Trout About It: Psych season 7, save the musical episode on tap, has come an end.

But this USA Network smash left leave us by not only delivering a string of deliciously flavored installments overall, but a rather fitting and rave-worthy finale as well.

Not Taking It Well

I loved this finale for a variety of reasons, among them the plethora of terrific lines. But it wasn’t the Psych quotes that stood out to me: it was the proof of how far Shawn, Gus, Juliet and Lassiter have come as a team.

Go back two seasons… Shawn/Gus and Juliet/Carlton were two separate units, often operating in opposition to one another. Only thanks to Henry’s repeated and consistent efforts to push these teams together did they start to cohere during that time.

Today, they are not only working cases, they are on a collision course to do so in every way, literally and figuratively. Shawn and Juliet are a couple; Shawn, Gus and Lassiter have reached a point in their relationship where Shawn and Gus can be part of Lassiter’s wedding party. They are the friends Lassiter said he didn’t think he had.

Not only that, they mounted a concerted effort to re-construct the case and their investigation for Trout, even as they covered for one another’s potentially compromising actions.

One of their brightest moments took place when – despite the fact they had been suspended from the case – they banded together to get the bad guy anyway.

But perhaps their greatest showing as a team was in their defense of their house, the SBPD. In the heat of the moment, they can be the most dysfunctional group of co-workers in the building. Lassiter strangled Shawn in front of Trout in a fit of anger over being doused with Leo’s ashes. But when you come into their house and threaten their people – like mascara on Prince – it is on.

We really have to hand it to Chief Vick, though. I think we’ve finally figured out which way she’s leaned on the whole psychic thing from the beginning. Getting the bad guy became the sword she was willing to fall on time and again for these four to do what they do so well. That was made most plain in her allowing Shawn to hug her, and him being the only one allowed to do so.

Part of me believes this is a nod to the fact that it was Shawn’s efforts that allowed her to keep the job that the previous mayor had no intention of letting her retain. His private investigating scandali ed the other candidate vying for the gig. This was likely the point at which the Chief decided that his antics, his results, were the price she was willing to pay to allow him to continue when the time came.

Chief Vick’s sacrifice was much greater in that it saved the jobs of the team she poured so much into even at the expense of her own six-month suspension. Yet even her sacrifice wasn’t enough to keep them together, as Trout decided he would no longer be hiring psychics and he demoted Carlton from his position as Head Detective. And it certainly didn’t save poor Bu from being humiliated and then fired by Trout himself.

Even so, the unit gave Trout a piece of their mind and defended Chief Vick in the process. That’s what makes this one of their best season finales. Not because of the drama, but because it demonstrated the trajectory these four have been on towards each other from the beginning, and what that trajectory is going to make them capable of in the future, especially in the face of a mutual enemy.

Though we’re left with tons of question, rest assured the fan-fiction world will begin resolving these wide open possibilities.

Other highlights from the Psych Season 7 finale:

  • Henry meeting Felicia at the Memorial Day Run, kinda want to see where that goes, if anywhere.

  • Silence making Gus uncomfortable in a legit way.

  • The elbow handshake.

  • Trout the donut hater.

  • Indian leg wrestling.

  • Shawn dropping the ball about him and Juliet to Trout.

  • Lassiter almost choking Shawn out over the “cake mix.”

  • Lassiter ratting out McNab’s side job to Trout to cover up his own perceived improprieties.

  • Consecutive Dinners and lunches including shaved ice cones.

  • WD-40. P-90X. Compound 1080.

  • Trout telling the team to “suck it.”

So… do you think we’ll ever see Karen again? How long do you think Trout will stick around?
