Survivor: Caramoan returned tonight with “Operation Thunder Dome”, and I believe we have our very first post-tribal scenes that take place during the day time! We’re so used to seeing the tribe come back with the blue and white night vision cameras, but after Brandon’s premature exit resulted in the first ever mid-day tribal council, we actually can clearly see the Favorites tribe as they bemoan Brandon’s behavior.
I don’t want to dwell any longer on Brandon’s hissy fit last week, as it really just makes me angrier the more that I think about it, but I will say one more thing. I was a little disappointed and frustrated with Jeff’s voiceover recapping the whole thing, as he says that Brandon’s hissy fit was “In true Hant fashion”. As a big fan of Russell Hant myself, I think that Brandon gives the Hant family a bad name. Russell never quit the game like that, and he never sabotaged his team mates or campsite. The worst thing he ever did was throw Jayson’s socks in the fire!
Anyway, that’s enough about Brandon! I think I’ve got all of the Anti-Brandon venom out of my system, so let’s get to the big development of the episode: The tribes have switched! Yes, our castaways smashed eggs filled with paint to determine which tribe they would be on, and our favorites are now mixed with the fans! I’m not going to recap who’s who on these new tribes, but I definitely think Cochran said it best: The game starts anew!
The Gota tribe certainly seems much stronger at first glance, and it definitely seems like the favorites within the new tribes are sticking together pretty well. The fans all seemed eager to impress and befriend the favorite players, as people like Sherri and Reynold were spilling their guts to their new tribe mates! It seems like the favorites barely had to say anything!
Well it turns out that my initial thoughts about the Gota tribe being much stronger was absolutely correct, as they completely crushed the Bikal tribe. Philip was obviously pretty upset to be beat so handily, as he’s been a critical part of the last few challenge victories for his old tribe, so he turns most of his ire towards Julia. Or as he calls her: “The Girl”. It was odd how he seemed to quickly grow fond of Julia while building the fire, but then he just as quickly started hating her so much that he didn’t even call her by name!
I was a bit surprised and disappointed by Matt’s exit tonight, as I definitely think that his new tribe overestimated how much of a threat he would be. Cochran referring to Matt and Michael as a “Power couple” was ridiculously off base. These are two guys that are completely useless in challenges, and not particularly strong strategi ers, so I guess he only went home because he was on the wrong end of an alliance.
With next week’s episode promising to have quite a bit of Philip being Philip, I can’t wait to see what happens! See you all then!
Random Thoughts:
- I was really hoping that the tribes wouldn’t have to smear paint on their clothing, as having those stains on their shirts for the rest of the season is going to drive me cra y. Remember when O y smashed his egg on his chest on Survivor: Redemption Island, and that orange stain stayed there for the entire season?
- Jeff’s comments during challenges is always entertaining, but “Bikal seems to be on some sort of medication they’re moving so slow” has to be one of my favorites of all time.
- I don’t pretend to be an expert on political correctness or proper terminology for gay people, but I’m pretty sure frequently referring to somebody as “The Gay” isn’t the most sensitive pet name in the world.
