Warning: full episode spoilers follow.
This episode marked the second time this season that The Big Bang Theory turned to Dungeons & Dragons as a plot device. Given that “The Santa Simulation” ranks as one of the best of Season 6, this is an understandable move, if not exactly a creative one. But it seems geeky lightning can strike twice, as the writers once again delivered a winner. If anything, “The Love Spell Potential” even managed to outdo its predecessor.
This episode kicked off with the boys and girls going off on their separate adventures again, as the girls prepared for a weekend of debauchery in Vegas and the boys prepared to venture into fantasy land. One of my first thoughts as the episode kicked off was, “Gee, it might be fun if they all played D&D together this time.” Funnily enough, that’s exactly what happened. Amy managed to bungle the Vegas trip in typical Amy fashion, and suddenly it was couples night in the Forgotten Realms. It was kind of clever to see the D&D game become an impromptu craps table for the jilted travelers.
