Advance Review: To be fair, FOX’s The Goodwin Games had a bumpy start before it even began. Early on, the half-hour midseason comedy was already delayed from the network’s fall lineup, with a FOX spokesperson attributing the schedule change to an abundance of similar shows like New Girl, The Mindy Project, Raising Hope and the now-cancelled Ben and Kate — and that was after FOX had reduced the series’ order from 13 to seven episodes. Nevertheless, that didn’t stop The Goodwin Games from fi ling out, as it makes a quiet debut just as the main TV season is ending.
The Goodwin Games (which debuts Monday on FOX but whose pilot can be seen now on Hulu) comes from How I Met Your Mother creators Craig Thomas and Carter Bays, and centers on three estranged siblings — Henry (Scott Foley), Chloe (Becki Newton) and Jimmy Goodwin (T.J. Miller) — who return home after the death of their father (played by Beau Bridges). But, prior to his passing, Mr. Goodwin creates a unique arrangement with his will: in order to obtain his $ 23 million inheritance, the siblings must play an elaborate game of Trivial Pursuit, which features customi ed questions and answers about their lives.
