Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest 2013 on ESPN2 July 4 has competitive eaters trying to best six-time reigning champion Joey Chestnut.
A Fourth of July tradition for 98 years, the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest 2013 is held Thursday, July 4, at the Nathan’s Famous restaurant in Brooklyn, N.Y. Last fall’s Superstorm Sandy severely damaged the landmark Coney Island restaurant and forced it to close. It reopened in the spring and the annual celebration of gastronomic excess will go on. Top competitive eaters will try to best six-time reigning champion Joey Chestnut, who downed a world-record 68 hot dogs and buns (“HDBs”) in 10 minutes in last year’s contest. ESPN2 airs the contest live at 12pm ET, with ESPN reairing it at 1pm ET and 7pm ET. Commentator Paul Page and Major League Eating’s Richard Shea call the contest with reporting by Renee Herlocker. The Women’s Championship airs live on ESPN3 at 11:25am ET.
