The USA Network has ordered an additional five episodes of the comedy drama Psychâs upcoming eighth season, Deadline has shared. The network ordered just eight episodes back in December 2012 prior to the showâs seventh season opener. This latest order now brings the new season (which could possibly the last) up to 13 episodes.
USAâs decision to up the script order is said to be due to Psychâs recent success in viewer ratings which has received a steady boost. The drama, from creator Steve Franks, managed to draw 2.8 million viewers last week, increasing viewership by 23% when compared to the showâs prior week performance.
The upcoming eighth season will commence with lead actor James Roday (Donât Come Knocking) back in his regular role as psychic Shawn Spencer along with his best friend and partner Burton âGusâ Guster, played by actor Dule Hill (The West Wing). Together the two team up, working for the Santa Barbara Police Department. Itâs unclear whether actress Maggie Lawson (Pleasantville), who plays the showâs female lead, Juliet OâHara, will be available for all 13 episodes of the new season. Lawson is also attached to a new ABC pilot.
