Nikita Season 3 Review “Self-Destruct” Free on klikvideo.com

We’ve heard the battle-cry and now we just have to wait for the inevitable war between Amanda, Nikita and the government. This week’s Nikita, ‘Self-Destruct’, managed to ramp up the stakes to astronomical levels, making the final three episodes of season three a very intriguing and exciting prospect indeed.

The main problem to be solved here was Alex’s disappearance and a lot of the episode felt like something taken out of season one. We saw the return of Alex’s past demons, a girl-powered team up between Nikita and Alex in a mission unrelated to Division and, by the end, we had just six of our team left, ready to face up to their numerous enemies. We’re right back where we started, but the difference is that now Ryan and Nikita know what almost became of them at the head of Division and have a little renewed faith in what’s right.

Alex is also trying to do what’s right, but going the wrong way about it. Still possessed with the idea that she has to save every young girl being exploited, she does a sweep of the areas crime bosses and drug dealers, makes mince-meat of them and then takes their money. The money is for a group of girls nearby, in a similar situation to the one Alex found herself in years ago, and she and Nikita eventually manage to get them out safely. She’s invited back into the team, but Ryan didn’t look too happy to see her.

There’s a lovely message here about women helping women, as Nikita wonders whether those girls will help someone else one day. The relationship between Alex and Nikita is what the show has been built around and it’s nice that, even when she’s been led far, far astray, they can still remember what they did for each other four years ago. Nikita gave Alex her life back, and I thought it was a neat throwback to have her remember exactly where she’d found her.

But what’s their plan going forward? Well, the fourteen recruits still with Division have been set free with new identities, so now the number’s back at six (with Sonya replacing Owen in the mix). Ryan wants to blow the place up and fake all of their deaths, but is also willing to throw himself on his own sword and relay the cover story to the president afterwards. Nikita, however, wants them to stay together long enough to retrieve the black box, which means we’re in for a showdown with Amanda and Owen/Sam before the finale.

What did you think of the episode? What did Amanda do to Nikita’s mind, if anything? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
