FX has closed a 10/90 deal with Lionsgate Television and Debmar-Mercury for a new half-hour sitcom starring comedian George Lope .
Based on a model established by Tyler Perry’s sitcoms on TBS, the 10/90 deal refers to a 10-episode series order that, if picked up for more episodes, is automatically given an additional 90 episodes, indicating a full 100-episode syndication run. A similar deal was made last year between FX and Charlie Sheen for Anger Management, which indeed got the pickup for a full 100 episodes.
Lope ’s show, called Saint George, marks the actor’s first starring role in a sitcom since his long-running ABC series George Lope . The multi-camera show will center on the exploits of a recently divorced blue-collar worker turned successful entrepreneur (Lope ), who struggles to balance “his demanding ex-wife, his 11-year-old son, his overbearing mother who just moved in, and his uncle, as well as his new role as a philanthropist ‘giving back’ by teaching history once a week at a night school.”
