Note: Full spoilers for the episode follow.
In “Broken Home,” Alex’s misguided attempt to save Division’s agents finally blew up in her face, exacting a heavy toll on her loved ones. Miles away, a helpless Nikita was forced to experience Amanda’s horrific past. It was a gripping and eventful hour that changed the fabric of the show forever–but then, what else is new? One of the hallmarks of this excellent show is how often and how quickly everything changes.
Maggie Q and Melinda Clarke delivered typically awesome (and come Emmy time, criminally overlooked) performances in what turned out to be an epic reveal of Amanda’s gruesome and literally tortured past. I loved the use of Siouxsie and the Banshee’s cover of The Band’s “This Wheel’s on Fire.” The lyrics are a perfect fit for Nikita’s forced-at-gunpoint walk down Amanda’s memory lane and it was also a nifty way to set the 1987 stage (along with that rad giant sweater) without going overboard with references.
