The Rat Lady is the perfect choice to kick off My Cra y Obsession Season 2 of TLC’s oddly entertaining lifestyle series that spotlights the strangest of strange things people do. My Cra y Obsession returns on Wednesday, April 3 at 10pm ET/PT where viewers will meet Chantal Banks, a middle-age woman who can’t live without her extended family of 19 rats.
“I love rats more than I love people,” Chantal declares. In fact she loves her rats so much, she left her home and husband of 11 years (Chester) for a two-bedroom condo she now shares with her 16-year-old son Kevin and her rats. “I can’t live without them.”
Through her rats, Chantal believes she’s found her purpose in life and asserts that she will never be without them. “My rats don’t judge me. When I cry they lick my tears.”
Chantal’s obsession with rats started at age 16 and just grew from there. Each of her over-si ed rats are named and have unique characteristics to them, Chantal treats all of them like her children. “Burger is my eater. Janice loves to kiss. Lily is my jumper,” she brags.
In the premiere episode, you’ll be educated on “rat huffing,” nu ling one’s nose into the body of a rat as a sign of affection, as well as, GGMR — Chantal’s coined phrase for Got to Get More Rats.
For many of the people featured on the show this is the first time cameras have documented their secret world of habits and rituals. Other featured obsessions this season include a young woman obsessed with taking photos with celebrities (although is that really that shocking?), a woman obsessed with Raggedy Ann, a woman obsessed with Barbies and a man obsessed with Barbara Eden (I Dream of Jeannie). The eight-part series will conclude with troll, taxidermy, dumpster diving and bug eating obsessions. Lots to look forward to!
