The aftermath of Amador’s death was felt this week on The Americans. With the FBI on the warpath and Gaad himself saying he’d love to get whoever was responsible in a body bag, it was a particularly tight spot for the Jennings, particularly after a clue – Amador’s ring – had the FBI on the hunt for Gregory’s crew. It was a nice final moment of triumph that the clue was one purposely left behind by Amador, who proved to be crafty from beyond the grave.
Stan is in a whole new situation. Not only did we see him kill Vlad in cold blood (and with the knowledge that Vlad truly had nothing to do with Amador’s death), but now he’s point blank lying to Nina abut it – while telling her he’s not lying, no less. This situation is tense and tragic enough that we didn’t need Nina telling us about Vlad’s true intentions to be a doctor. In his brief time on screen, it was already clear that Vlad was not a malicious guy and Nina’s grief was enough to make this all worse for Stan, without building up Vlad as an even more saintly person. Still, Stan certainly has an awful secret he’s keeping from Nina now…
