Like slapstick comedy, fish finger sandwiches, and video game movies, ghost stories are hard to perfect, but impossible to fault when executed right.
So the news that it would be Neil Cross penning a spooky sojourn for the Doctor didn’t really excite. Thankfully, “Hide” was everything that “The Rings of Akhaten” was not – nuanced, intimate and claustrophobic, and refreshingly shy of the grandiose mega-ness that his previous Season 7B episode did so wonkily.
